Soccer Fabrics

Almost all soccer jerseys produced today are comprised of man-made polyester yarns.  While the fabric is not what you'd remember it to be back in the 1970's when seemingly everything was made out of polyester (sorry, but I think we'll all agree that it was a bad fashion decade - think Travolta in his white suit). Totally Soccer's fabrics are comprised of 72 denier polyester yarns (silk is about 110 denier yarns), which affords the perfect mix of softness and durability for a performance soccer fabric.  Polyester has become the soccer  fabric of choice for a number of reasons: it is durable yet lightweight, maintains color-fast properties (rarely bleeds like cotton or cotton blends), is a consistent fabric to produce because it is a man-made process and can be easily replicated and finally it can be engineered for unparalleled softness on the body. (See How Soccer Uniforms are Made)

At the core of the soccer uniform is the knitting process that creates the soccer fabric. Knitting determines the weight, texture and look of the fabric. These soccer fabrics are knitted on the finest twenty-eight cut jacquard machines available. This ensures a consistent texture and design of the soccer fabrics. Furthermore, the soccer fabrics are dyed to maintain a consistent shade of color and always matched back to the original intended color. Why? Because it provides a consistent standard to compare to instead of a color match that has migrated away from the original color after thousands of yards of fabric through the factory.  If you didn't match to the original color, it would be like playing whisper down the lane with your soccer fabric - and we don't do that!

Some buyers of soccer uniforms become "mesmerized" by the shiny fabric sheen on some soccer jerseys.  You will notice that these high-sheen soccer jerseys are less expensive than similar "dull" or "flat" soccer jerseys. Here's why: bright, shiny yarns do not go through a final softening process where the polyester yarns are "fluffed" - it's almost like putting your towels in the dryer after they've been hanging on the line - where the yarns become softer and more luxurious and result in a nicer soccer fabric. Be aware when purchasing these soccer jerseys that you are buying an inferior product and that these jerseys will not feel as nice on the body.

Finally, different soccer stores will try to "jazz-up" the presentation of their soccer fabrics. The dirty little secret is that you can only produce athletic weight polyester fabrics in a few ways. While they'll try to inspire confidence in trying to brand their fabrics different names (we do as well-shh!), the reality is that outside of the cheapest soccer uniforms there is only so many ways that soccer fabrics can be produced. Don't waste your time or money buying into fancy marketing names.

Without further adieu, here is the lineup of soccer fabrics we present:

Classic Soccer Uniforms

Pro Diamond – features a unique diamond jacquard pattern knitted directly into the soccer fabric providing a hint of texture and flash without increasing the price because this is completed during the knitting process; 100% polyester yarns ensure a durable soccer apparel while maintaining a plush feel that is soft on the body – this is a time-tested and proven soccer fabric. It is knitted to the exact athletic performance weight which ensures comfort in every playing condition. Pro Diamond Fabric
Sublimated soccer fabrics - through a heat transfer process, a sublimated design actually dyes the thread of the fabric. There is nothing laying on top of the fabric (as opposed to the process of using inks in silkscreen printing) and the feel of the fabric does not change. It only changes the color. Your image can't be washed out and won't fade with washings. It is as permanent as the fabric itself. Sublimation can be used to create intricate designs (like the Flower Power Goalie Jerseys) or a simple striping design (like the Newcastle soccer jerseys or the Villa soccer uniforms).

Neck Trims

The neck trims used in conjunction with the soccer jerseys we produce are all 100% polyester. Why? By having each component comprised of polyester yarns - their physical properties are identical - which means there will be no migration of dyes from the neck trim onto the fabric and vice versa. It just the detail that makes Totally Soccer the right choice for purchasing your soccer uniforms, jerseys or shorts..
